Oregano - Uses and Curative Properties

Origanum vulgare (widely known as pot marjoram) or Oregano is a perenial herb. It became very famous when it was used to flavour Pizzas. It is widely used for flavouring in Italian and greek cuisines. It has a slightly bitter taste and a strong aroma. It is available in fresh and dried forms. Oregano is an ancient herb belonging to the mint family. It has the credit of being the awarded the " Herb of the year-2005" honour.

Thyme for flavour

Thymus vulgaris or Garden Thyme is a largely used culinary herb. Thyme is also known for its Therupatic properties. Thyme is a perennial herb which growns best in well-drained soils and enjoys full sun. It is a drought resistant plant. There are many species of Thyme. Thyme is sold both fresh and dried. Thyme is a basic ingredient in French and Italian cuisines. Ancient Egyptians used thyme in embalming. The Greeks and Romans used Thyme to make incense.

Thyme species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera insect species including Chionodes. Thyme is widely cultivated as a herb, grown for its strong flavour, which is due to its content of thymol. Thyme tea is good for cough and bronchitis. It has anti-spasmodic and carminative properties.

Worm Infestation

Worm infestation is very common among children. The worms enter the body due to lack of hygiene. Certain basic precautions have to be adhered in order to keep the worms away. Wash your hand thoroughly before eating, avoid eating at roadside food joints, do not walk with bare feet, Do not eat food which is kept open for a long time, wash fruits and vegetables throughly before eating.
