Heart Burn

Heartburn or 'Pyrosis' is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus, caused by gastric acid. There are many different circumstances that can promote acid reflux and heartburn. The esophagus is a one-way system, it is a long tube in the chest connects the mouth to the stomach. At the end of esophagus is a ring-like muscle that blocks the contents of the stomach from moving back up the esophagus. When this muscle becomes faulty the acid from the stomach travels back to the esophagus and causes irritation as it is a very sensitive tissue. This sensation is termed as heart burn.
