EGGS - Does Good Health Need It

  • An average –sized egg is loaded with a whopping 213 milligrams of cholesterol

One of the strongest memories of childhood for everyone will be mother feeding a boiled egg every morning for breakfast. Little did we knew then that eggs can give stomach cramaps if you are allergic to it. We always thought eggs were vegetarian and that it was good for health. Let us dispel the myth marketed by some people in the lucrative business; Eggs are as vegetarian as chicken tikka or mutton burger.

For those who care about birds, the news about how a poultry industry functions can be very disturbing. The poultry industry is actually taking an innocent chick from its sheel to hell. A visit to such poultry farms would confirm that from the day an egg with a semi-grown chick inside is brought to the farm., the chick suffers badly. Inside the cages, the hens are treated like mere egg-producing machines with hundreds of them crammed into one cage. These hens that struggle to even move their wings, start attacking each other for more space. To avoid this they are debeaked.

Debeaking is a painful process whereby the birds’ beaks are chopped off without giving them any painkiller. After this most of the hens won’t be able to eat anything.

If modern method of egg production is not good for hens, the eggs are not good for humans either. According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a Washiington-based group, about 70 percent of the calories in egg are fat based and a big portion of this fat is saturated. They say that an average-sized egg is loaded with a whoping 213 milligrams of cholesterol. Cholesterol is found only in animal products and its consumption leads to clogged arteries and heart diseases. Eggs also trigger allergies like hives. And eating egg can also lead to joint problems like rheumatism in old age.

And that is not all. PCRM also says that porous nature of the egg shells combined with un hygienic conditions in the farms, invite hordes of bacteria like Salmonella, which can cause many diseases.

The egg industry claims that the eggs are not only vegetarian, they are also healthy for you. If you care for your health and the life of the hens, edge the eggs out of your diet today.
